What size room or audience does the EON710 suit?

The 10-inch EON710 is the compact model in JBL EON700 range, and a sensible choice for speech, acoustic sets, small bands and corporate presentations, used as a pair on stands. With 1,300W peak and a 125dB maximum SPL there is plenty of headroom for its size. If you need more low end for a dance floor, add a subwoofer or step up to the 12-inch EON712 or 15-inch EON715.

Does it need a separate amplifier or mixer?

No amplifier: it is a powered speaker with the amp and DSP built in, so a signal goes straight into it. Two XLR combo inputs mean you can plug a microphone or a line source directly in for simple jobs such as a speech or a lectern. For anything with several sources you still want a mixer in front of it.

What is the coverage pattern, and why does it matter?

110 degrees horizontal by 60 degrees vertical. The wide horizontal pattern spreads sound across an audience rather than beaming at the middle rows, while the narrower vertical pattern keeps energy off the ceiling and floor, which is what preserves speech intelligibility in a hard, reflective hall. Frequency response runs 52Hz to 20kHz at -10dB.
